Aussie Nudity

Monday 1 March, 2010.....11.47am: MORE than 5000 people braved a cool morning to get naked on the steps of the Sydney Opera House today.

The nudity was not a case of spontaneous stripping, but rather an organized photo shoot by American artist Spencer Tunick, who is known around the world for his large-scale images of nudes posed in stunning formations.

Although more than 2500 people had registered an intention to pose, it is estimated the final tally surpassed 5200, despite the temperature hovering around 20C as the volunteers gathered in the early hours of the morning.

With the clothes coming off, the thousands of people also had to contend with a cool breeze off Sydney Harbour on what was the first day of autumn.

  1. Spencer just gives people a license to have a giggle and a laugh at others, I'm not convinced there is 'real' art in there.

  10. I think Spencer is a pervy bastard who uses the term "art" to get his rocks off.

And I thank him for this.

  13. yeah, seems aussie's like to be nekky.... (so do some americans...)

(hey, there were some in the video here, but i didn't say any sausage dogs in your pics above.... but... seriously... i do like the concept of the artist... any clue if he was au natural, too? any chance that first pic is him talking to the crowd? should be... practice whatchoo preach n' all.... and, since it was at the sydney opera house, was the chorus there singing some majestic melody?)

  14. .......close..lol

G"day to you Ian. How are you doing?.. Ive been waiting to hear how the bid day went .. that very special event? boy or girl?

  15. Nope.. frorm memory the "artist" was behind the camera fully clothed with a jacket on.
There is a You tube clip if your interested and it shows the process and the photographer directing his "flock of nakedness".

    and

dont you mean Choir.. not chorus.. a choir sings.. a chorus is part of the music.. you know the repetative lyrics of a song.?

and.. You posted this vid in the past on my page.. crazy crazy.. it takes all kinds doesnt it.

  16. i'll go check the tube for it at some point, and post it here upon finding it, as that's my mission in life.. guess he needed his clothes to.. i dunno... have his cel phone easily accessible? maybe he carried snacks in his jacket pocket? but i still think he should've led by example..

chorus can be used in either case... a synonym for a choir or the main part of a song...

and, i thought i'd posted that vid before... i like it... the couple seems truely natural, more than just naked-wise... that and in their overall enthusiastic approach to life... (but yeah, i guess they couldn't just walk into any 7-11 in such non-attire....)

  22. Hi Angie.....I was talking to David the other night about this guy and was explaining what he was doing...i couldn't remember his name as I only saw a trailer of it on the telly. Anyway, he said come to your page cuz you were talking about just the same thing. Well tonight on the telly they had a whole program on him and what he does. Was very interesting. He drove across America getting people to pose naked for him. Most were quite happy to do so. It is amazing what he does. And as to David's question as to whether he poses naked himself.(Spencer...not David...cuz well we know David already admitted to being nekky in front of the puter....lol) ..well he went to a nudist beach to do a group shot and he said he felt really uncomfortable being nude and not having any pockets for his camera stuff and didn't really get the kind of shots he was looking for there cuz for some reason people wouldn't listen or take him seriously(prolly cuz he had no clothes on). I think in a crowd like that I might be coerced into doing it....lol.....maybe....

Oh and art is in the eye of the beholder, very subjective.....if a lot of people like it is it then art? or if no one likes it is it still art or just that one person is only being "creative"?.....

I did find his home page as I posted up there .. but this week Ive not had time to do very much else but study.. (dont ask how much house cleaning got done!!..sigh) Which brings me to something I was going to blog about late last week but never did.. but could possibly in the future.... I was watching a program which had a short segment on people with ... with... (damn.. cant think of it....)
........grrrr.. it does have a name, but for the life of me it escapes me..
basically what they do is collect EVERYTHING and throw NOTHING away....Its a type of compulsive disorder. ... Any way .. thats kinda what my home looks like at present (slight exageration lol )

I Do intend to read a little more about Spencer, thanks for coming over and leaving the info.

Have a great weekend... any plans?

  27. LMAO!!! That was the first thing I got rid of when leaving, aged 15 lol

  28. Hey Angie...they are called hoarders....plain and simple. It is a complusive disorder, but I doubt you have it to the extremes these people do. They won't even throw away a piece of paper as they really, truly think they will use it at some point.....very strange these compulsive disorders... I myself am a pack rat...now that is not a disorder(least I don't think so)..similar tho....it runs in our family...genetic?...I dunno...
