The Easter Egg Tree..

In this March 21, 2012 picture, Volker Kraft decorates a tree with 10,000 Easter eggs in the garden of the retired couple Christa and Volker Kraft in Saalfeld, GermanyKraft’s apple sapling sported just 18 eggs when he first decorated it for Easter in 1965. The number increased year by year; and by last year, the sturdy tree was festooned with 9,800 eggs, artfully decorated with everything from sequins to sea shells.

Happy Easter to you all.

  1. I wonder if it took the first half of his retirement getting it festooned?

  2. I suppose they probably don't get many heavy rains or windstorms there. Happy Easter to you, Angie.

  4. I have one word to say about this, "Wow"

Does he removes the eggs from the tree after Easter? That must be a huge job.

  6. Hi Manfred and Happy Easter to you and yours also, thanks very much. .. they would have to be pretty fragile.

when I was 13yrs of age, as home work for my German class at Easter time we had to decorate eggs for easter. I boiled min in onion peel and it turned a gorgeous tan colour. Then I started scratching the surface to create fine lines of white to form a pattern. My sisters boyfriend wound up spending a good couple of hours doing intricate designs on it.. it turned out wonderful and my teacher was of the impression that I was extremely artistic lol ...

  8. G'day Secretcorners, its nice to hear from you again. Hope your Easter is enjoyable.

Im so pleased that you shared the link .. Initially I was of the impression that the eggs were left in the tree from year to year.. but from the article you posted, it would appear that they are stored each year until Easter and then they are hung .. what a HUGE task that would be. .. they would have to be very fragile wouldnt they, it says that the internal part of the egg is "blown" out of the eggs before painting.

  11. Oh, my...does he have to take them down and put them back up every year? With 9,800 eggs and growing, I wonder how much time they spend doing this every year. They look nice, I must say.

I appreciate the "commoners" doing that with Easter Eggs, and, while I don't especially like the sense of entitlement they represent, I also like the Fabergé eggs made for the Russian Czar and his family in the late 19th and early 20th century.
