  1. Thanks so much for posting this! And what a beautiful harp it is... Yes, it does kind of remind me of "Stairway to Heaven", now that you mention it! Some of the clusters of notes are very similar.

  2. ahh excellent, you made it here Sam.

I thought it rather amusing when I first came accross this video, cause in the past the only harpists Ive seen play are attractive woman, in formal attire .. He would have to be the complete opposite.. but he plays so beautifully.

I dont recall now cause its been a while since I posted this blog Sam, but the video was on a site which featured a collection of harps made by a certain fellow, Im not sure if this guy is playing one of the handcrafted harps.. or if he actually is the guy who makes them... could he actually be THAT talented??

Glad you enjoyed .. I have a fascination of harps.. never played one, perhpas thats why.

  3. I have had a fascination with harps too! The way they are played is almost alien to me, I have never even tried to make sounds on a harp... and I'm curious as to how long it would take to learn how to play one. And yes, I suppose it is possible that a person can be so talented that they can play a harp and also make a beautiful one. I have known of many guitar players who were also luthiers.

  4. Hi again Sam.. I did a little reading this morning AND I watched some Youtube clips on learning to play the harp (not that I didnt have 1090000 chores I should have been doing lol )

I hadn't realised that the strings on a harp are colour coded! Red for "C" , Black for "F".. White for all others.
and .. as with a Piano the left hand plays the bass section and the right plays the melody.( I always thought it was the other way around, not sure why I thought that, other than being right handed, its the left hand which determines the pitch of the note on the fretboard of a guitar)

Fingers are numbered slightly different to classical guitar.. thumb is #1 (on both hands.)

AND this site is really informative.. lesson 2 and lesson 3 particularly so for me.. because all the while Ive been saying subconciously to myself.. hmm.. but how do I play sharps?? (or flats)

I think you should buy a small Celtic Harp to Add to your beautiful collection of instruments.. .what do you say?

  5. Thanks for the info and the link! I didn't know all of that! Nah, I think a harp would be down on my list, I still have the mandolin and banjo to learn and they are sitting around staring me in the face all the time!
