Engine's in ... still a ways to go

Back in April we thought we had heaps of time for the modifications required on our boat... now in mid August we are doubtful that everything will be up and running before October. Thats the begining of our Lobster Season in South Australia.

A couple of days back the new Motor was put in place... the next day saw all manor of hoses and equiptment  attached to the motor...  we are next to instal the new shaft and proppeller ( they are being machined and cast this week).  There is a hole in the hull which needs to be fiberglassed and a new rudder to be fitted.

Sea trialing the boat and tweeking everything will take some time. There has been a huge amount of maintenance.. Glenn has done an awesome job.

  1. Congratulations and kudzus to Glenn for getting things this far! I would not even know where to begin with something like this. That's an impressive engine, too. Well, it impresses the heck out of me. I've never seen one that large. It's about the size of a segment of a beam line at a synchrotron.

  2. Thanks Bob.. I will pass that along. GLenn has done an awesome job ..it's not just been the motor its been pretty much everything thats connected to it has needed work.

I had to "google" to research a synchrotron (it was as if you were speaking a foreign language.. ) But Im wiser now!! ...

  5. Sorry. 'Synchrotron' is my kind of language. Just think of it as a giant X-ray generator.

I guess the new motor is smaller and cleaner, but just as powerful. How do you make it make all the right connections when the new motor is smaller? I guess all the power transfer points must be connectable or it wouldn't work.

Good luck getting ready for the upcoming lobster season. I hope you make it. I know you lost a month or more of last season.

  9. um...thats rather funny Sheree... I have never been on a fishing trip with Glenn ( or anyone else).

We have been married 27 years... I think I have stepped foot on our fishing vessel maybe a dozen times, three of those times perhaps to leave port (for no longer than 40 minutes..which I may add, I took sea sickness tablets for the longest trip ) the other times we were there to do maintenance that required us to stay in the port.
