Raspberry Pi: $25 USB Size Computer Runs 1080p
If you thought the $35 India tablet was innovative then you’ll be blown away by what game developer David Braben has come up with.
Raspberry Pi is a tiny USB stick PC that has an HDMI port on one end and a USB port on the other, you plug it into an HDMI socket and then connect a keyboard via the USB port.
What you get is a fully functioning machine running a version of Linux and its only $25.
You’re first instinct is to assume that it’ll provide a crappy experience, but check out what they’ve packed into this USB size device.
You’ll get a 700MHz ARM11 processor coupled with 128MB of RAM and runs OpenGL ES 2.0, allowing for decent graphics performance with 1080p output. That’s right it’ll be able to output 1080p High Definition Graphics.
Raspberry Pi will alos be able to browse the web, run office applications, and it will give the user a fully functional computer to play with as soon as it’s plugged in.
This USB size device you’ll be able to carry on your key chain should be available in the next 12 months.

Hi Bryce, not a USB compatible monitor, a HDMI Cable would connect to the Raspberry Pi HDMI port and the USB Keyboard would connect to the USB Port on the opposite end of the Raspberry Pi.. so I suppose for those families who didnt wish to purchase a monitor it could be connected to a Television Screen.
ReplyDeleteBut this would certainly save schools from having to purchase laptops or Desktops with monitors.. a big saving.
I have been trying to think of any negatives .. but because Im not really sure how slow the specifications would run I am finding it difficult to compare the Raspberry Pi with a slower laptop.
