thanks for posting your 'autumn leaves' angielina.. now i've had a good eva morning.. (eva's good in the evaning, too... she's just good anytime of the day or night.. amazing voice and soul)...

<- agrees with gregers as to 'before her time'... but i read an article about her some years back... how she used to sing backup only cuz she was too shy to take the lead... meanwhile continued on with her regular job as a landscape gardener... but her friends encouraged her and thus, she blossomed...
then, yes, much too soon that she came down with melanoma... truly tragic... but.... friends and family said she was at peace with her passing... so in a sense, she left before our time.. but we're lucky that she took the leap of faith/courage to make the music she did... an angel's voice on earth..
ohhhh yes.. had many many years of the "sax" jokes lol how you doing ??.. yr an Eva Cassidy fan? I had heard of her.. but had never heard her sing until I posted the clip last night.. having a lovely time singing to these tonight. How about you.. did you have a sing along to any?
SO totally hear you on that. I drove 1 1/2 hours today with "Disturbed" blasting through the speakers the whole way.. I was almost sorry Id reached my destination lol .. I really hate jumping in the car to find that my Ipod is flat.. my son bought an Ipod connection which powers and charges the ipod while you play.. its the best thing he has ever bought!!..
You know David.. I used to get terribly nervous when playing music in front of anyone.. Id play for hours at a time in my bedroom and loved it.. but put me in front of anyone and I just didnt enjoy playing at all. In my final year of school I did music as a subject with my saxophone.. at the end of the year each individual student had to perform for three adjudicators as a full performance in our performing arts centre to be graded, it was our final exam for Performance and instrumental skill .. in all honesty I think its the most traumatic thing I have ever had to do .. (the pieces to be played had to be approved at the begining of the year as being of a high enough skill level to be presented as exam pieces). I shook like a leaf the whole time I played. (duration approx 30 - 40mins).. One of my biggest regrets is that I didnt keep a copy of the recording.
It never dawned on me that many of my music friends used to get just as nervous as I did.
I have a very close friend who plays guitar and sings.. she plays in a band but also performs as a solo artist .. just her and her guitar. It took her years to get the courage to do so.. even now she quite often need some "liquid courage" before performing.
yes, angie, ain't just you who gets them butterflies fluttering in the gut when having to do a solo.. it's a whole different deal than being part of a band where you can simply blend in.. you didn't say how your performance played, other than shaking the whole time, but i'm guessing you did quite well..
lots of musicians (singers and instrumentalists) close their eyes when performing... it helps 'em feel the music a bit more, but also, very importantly, transports them to a place where they're not so concerned as to being watched..
as to your friend and the liquid courage... yeah.. many do some of that.. dylan, for example, used to have a few gulps of some (i think it was) whiskey before he'd dare take the stage.. that was when he was unknown, as well as into his years of filling auditoriums.. i think it's okay to get loosened up a bit that way, as long as one doesn't get too dependent on da booze and go overboard to the point where it messes up their playing/singing..
nah thats just it David.. being part of the band, orchestra, ensemble group or soloist.. I just suffered terribly with nerves. That is one of the main reasons I didn't continue studying music.. I had always intended to go to Uni with music. As a Mum I am so pleased that neither of the kids suffer the way I did .. Brett describes being on stage as one huge adrenaline rush.. he loves it.
My results .. suprised me and Im very proud of them.. I dont recall how many students performed that week but it was for the entire year 12 Music Students for the town I lived in and its surrounding districts.. quite an extensive number of students. I drew second place, in order of grades received. (percentage grades)

Wow.. this seriously sent goosebumps down my spine.. This is another song I used to play alot on my Sax..
