Highway for Mt Everest?!

2007

Old news, but I hadn't heard of this before

In 2007 the Chinese Government saw sense and decided not to run a tarmac highway halfway up Mount Everest.  The road, replacing an older dirt track, was to have reached 17,000ft up the world's tallest mountain. The authorities had argued that the road was necessary in order to allow the Olympic Torch procession to reach the summit of the mountain in 2012.

Thank God Common Sense prevailed!!

  1. I totally agree! Why does man have to go out and discover new things, only to take a crap on them later? We are a parasite on the planet...Sheesh.

  3. Yup... I have no problem with "man" being inquisitive and I think exploration is a great thing... but hey... we dont really need to control everything, and we dont have the right to change everything...

  4. I agree, it is a wonderful thing to discover and LOOK, but don't tear it apart! We don't "live and let live", we think we know better...I teach my daughter and nieces and nephews to look, enjoy, and leave it the way you found it! And if you brought it in, take back out with you! LOL. XXZ
